A question I get often is: Can you give me some ideas on how to use small notebooks?

I sure can!

Technically, anything you would write or create in a larger notebook can be scaled down to fit travelers notebooks or mini notebooks. So listing, memory keeping, themes, planning, note taking, goal setting, quotes, scriptures, journaling....these ideas certainly can be applied to mini books.

In fact, a lot of people create really special or fun projects in notebooks that wouldn’t necessarily fit in a family memory keeping album or yearly documentation.

A notebook gives you freedom to play, think outside of the box, and make something unique. I’ve seen mini books about favorite photos of pets, favorite poems illustrated, a nutcracker collection, a shoe & purse obsession, decorated cakes and cookies, “currently” lists, and on & on. You are only limited by your imagination!

Today, I want to focus on the covers...to decorate or not to decorate? The choice is yours. I try to create covers that are cute enough to stand on their own. But, if you like to dress things up, go ahead and use those smaller embellishments that are perfect for adding a personal touch.

I used a few pieces from a Felicity Jane kit and a Citrus Twist kit for these example covers.

Happy December 1st!

Finally back in my crafty space, setting up a December notebook, and listening to Christmas music!

I made a cute paper garland for my craft room last month for fall, so I decided to make another one for December since it was so easy & cute!

Using papers from Issue 15 of @retrohipmagazine, I punched some holiday shapes and attached to twine with little craft clothes pins.

I think I’m going to use the garland to decorate my desk top Christmas tree. 🎄

And so, another long Thanksgiving holiday draws to a close for us.

We have a cabin in the woods where we spend a lot of time in the fall...it’s where I can truly get my autumn “fix” with crunchy leaves and woodsmoke and the smell of pine.
It was a truly blessed holiday with both of my children...good food, way too much dessert, football, blankets, and enjoying the Christmas tree lights in the dark.
Leaving for home today and looking forward to very cold days this week! (40’s, which is heaven for us!)

Hope your week is off to a good start!

I’m finally settled on what I’m going to do with my December travelers...the papers and coordinating goodies from issue 15 of @retrohipmagazine are just so fresh and fun! I will be using the striped notebook from my Winterberry collection with a dot grid interior.

My focus this year will be “Cozy Vibes” around the house...since parties and gatherings won’t be happening. I’ll be celebrating all the little joys around the house that bring joy during this beautiful season. And I’m still chugging along in my Childhood Christmas memories TN...and I’ll share more, for sure.

Hello, friends!

I don’t know about you, but now more than ever, my crafting, journaling, and planning has been bringing me so much joy!

There’s something so comforting about the traditions and celebrations of this season.

I have been using my travelers notebook to journal for the month of November. It’s very inner focused writing, reflecting on what’s in my head and heart with a focus on gratitude.

I love sharing my setup because I find the process fun and motivating. Once I get my foundation pages set up with a few simple embellishments ahead of time, I’m ready to just pick up my pen and focus on the writing.

🤎Select a notebook
💛Gather supplies that coordinate: I chose Simple Stories “Cozy Days” paper, washi tape, tags, and embellishments. @simplestories
🧡Inks & date stamp for dating entries; I use Close To My Heart stamp pads (@bethanneblackctmh ).
🤎Go through the notebook and add washi, tags & embellishments just to add a few touches of color. You can always add more later if you need to dress it up more.
💛Enjoy writing quotes, prayers, scripture, daily activities, and stories day by day. By the end of the month, I’ll have 30 pages of heartfelt gratitude.

November marks the one year anniversary of receiving my first shipment of products and opening my shop. 😍

Today, I’m going to tell you a quick story about the materials I use for my line.

I spent a long time researching different paper manufacturers. It’s unbelievable how many great paper companies there are around the world, and the science behind creating color, texture, and weight.

After weeks of sitting at a conference table at the printer’s office studying paper, I chose 100# Mohawk Via paper which is milled in the U.S.

And I was promptly told I was crazy.
True story. They gave me a million reasons why I should go with a lighter weight, less expensive paper.

But I knew people in the planning and crafting world appreciate quality paper. You don’t want ghosting or bleeding. You want to try different inks and pens and watercolors. So, I dug in my heels and insisted on Mohawk 100# paper.

And I’m so glad I did. 😍

What do you do when you only have a handful of pho

What do you do when you only have a handful of photos but so many stories and memories? You document what you can with the photos you have...and google the rest! 😉

We always took a few photos for special events, but rarely took everyday photos — it just wasn’t the “thing” to do when film was 12 or 24 exposures per roll, and one pack sometimes lasted months! 🤦🏻‍♀️

So, I’ve googled and looked on ebay for “vintage toys and games,” (yep, I’m vintage 😳) and found my childhood toys that I received for Christmas that way.

Barbie, Ken, and Stacie, doll houses, play kitchens, Suzie Homemaker ovens, and the Sears catalog were a big part of my Christmas memories. It’s a wonderful feeling going down memory lane making my Pink Christmas travelers.

I’m using @kellybangscreative Pink Christmas, @retrohipmagazine Issue 15, Citrus Twist Sparkle and Joy to embellish my notebook, and @bethanneblackctmh Close to My Heart inks.

I’ve had a project that’s been swirling around

I’ve had a project that’s been swirling around in my head for a long time. I decided that I want to create this project now because the time is right. My children are grown and off on their own.

I’ve spent many years documenting my family’s Christmas memories, and each of my children have many scrapbook pages to remind them of their beautiful, magical childhood Christmases.

I have no documentation, however, of my own childhood Christmas memories. (I may have 1 page in hundreds of layouts I’ve created.) I am very blessed to have magical memories of my young years — back in my day, though, we didn’t take many pictures. It wasn’t unusual to take just one or two photos for the occasion. So, while I have just a handful of photos, I have many stories and memories that can be told.

I’m going to push the envelope with the color scheme! Kelly Bangs Creative’s Pink Christmas papers and printables are the perfect touch of whimsy and holiday spirit, and I’ll be using my pink gingham travelers notebook. 💕 I was a very girly little girl, lots of playing with dolls and wearing dresses and dressing up my Barbies, so I think this will be a very joyful project.

I’m looking forward to creating something special!

Happy November!

While I’m excited about the holidays and all the fun crafting projects ahead, I’m one of those that does not like to hurry along Christmas. November and the fall season is my very favorite time of year, so I’m happy to stay in an autumn frame of mind.

I made a quick crafty project yesterday while watching football, and I’m really happy with the result. I made an easy paper garland to hang on my scrapbook bookshelf in my craft room.

You can use any patterned paper you wish (this works for all colors, seasons, and themes).

I liked the look of the neutral papers in plaid (love plaid!) from @retrohipmagazine to make a fall garland. I just grabbed some paper, shape punches, hole punch, and some twine. String the shapes and drape across the bookshelf. 😍 Easy! I may add some twinkle lights for a night time glow. 🌟🌟🌟🌟
